Persistent rains over the recent period have intensified the precarious living conditions of the many hundreds of thousands of evacuated civilians in the territory, as stated by aid groups.

"Terrible" Weather Creates Grave Risks

A official described the weather overnight as "terrible", with rain so intense that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"Last night was really horrendous for the families. The heavy rains were so intense... And the winds were so forceful," noted the spokesperson.

Officials express extreme anxiety that minors sheltering in temporary structures in wet clothing will contract hypothermia and additional illnesses.

Deaths and Widespread Loss

The health ministry have reported that one baby has died from exposure and at least 11 other people have lost their lives in roof cave-ins caused by the harsh conditions.

Further statements indicate a higher fatality count. Authorities stated that multiple homes had totally fallen and many others had collapsed partially.

Relief Distribution Seen as Insufficient
