Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Showdown With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer previously helped the Houston Astros winning the championship in the 2017 season.

Canada's MLB team reached their maiden championship series after the 1993 season by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.

Behind three runs to one, Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, guiding the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a four games to three triumph in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."

Springer has now slugged 23 total October home runs, making him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another player in the world that I want up in that spot other than George Springer with his post-season brilliance," said manager John Schneider.

Seattle, despite leading the early in the series, continue to be the one club that has never reached in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's painful" in the wake of his side's defeat at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.

"It's a special team. Sadly that we finished on the losing end of this one," he remarked.

Toronto won the title on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on Friday.
