Tom Clancy's The Division Makes Its Way to the Tabletop as a Deeply Strategic TTRPG
The intense world of Tom Clancy’s The Division will be adapted into a dice-based role-playing experience. A partnership was established to create a TTRPG that explores the franchise’s post-pandemic landscape. This initiative was revealed, with a funding drive planned to launch in April of 2026.
"This project will bring the franchise’s distinctive tension, strategic depth, and memorable setting to the table, providing fans a fresh avenue to engage with The Division through deep narrative and mission-based gameplay," reads an announcement.
Launch products are set to feature a beginner's box, core rulebooks, a GM screen, miniatures, and several premium versions.
Delving Into The Division's Dystopian World
In this universe, a lethal pathogen called Green Poison was unleashed in NYC, sending the United States into turmoil. As the crisis escalates, society crumbles and hostile groups emerge, turning the city into a battlefield. To preserve order, the government {activate|deploy] The Division, a covert network of sleeper agents. That’s where the agents enter the story.
Work on the RPG has been in progress for about several years, and it is reportedly finished. The forthcoming Kickstarter campaign will serve as a preorder system to reach a broader audience, specifically in North America. Manufacturing will start right after the fundraiser, with shipping expected for later in 2026.
A Streamlined Tactical System: The GRIS System
An early look at the system confirms it uses 10-sided dice predominantly through its new GRIS system, encouraging a streamlined and tactical approach. Agents use abilities to roll a handful of dice, usually between one and five d10s.
- Instead of summing the total, players select a single “result die” from the pool.
- This die is then compared against a target difficulty.
- Rolling a natural 10 triggers additional bonuses, such as increased harm or boosted support.
Engagements Emphasize Tactical Placement and Awareness
Fights stress positioning and situational awareness, mirroring the source material. Factors like taking cover, height advantage, or visibility directly influence dice rolls. This system seems built to reward coordination and smart positioning instead of raw numbers.
A Thematic Wound Mechanic
The way health is tracked introduces a interesting thematic twist. Operatives have a wound threshold; taking heavy hits reduces their effectiveness by lowering the number of d10s.
- At zero health, an operative is downed, but is not knocked out.
- They may still move and take limited actions, emulating the last stand common to many shooter games.
- Any agent knocked down must roll on a trauma table, potentially gaining persistent effects like trauma or crippling injuries.
A Ready-to-Play Scenario
A free introductory rulebook will be released soon. It contains a pre-made introductory scenario called Ashes of Murray Hill. In this mission, the group spearhead the hunt for a lost doctor squad and must thwart an assault by the notorious Rikers gang, who have seized control of that NYC neighborhood. Further information and the complete product lineup are expected to be detailed near the Kickstarter start date.
