The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
