The New Animated Series' Introductory Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Track
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second one released by Critical Role Productions LLC's record label Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will appreciate its presence.
Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that accompanied the show's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have some surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.
This animated adventure will be released on the streaming service from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and the video site.
