The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the channel unveiled a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its peculiarly charming appeal.

"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something surprisingly comfy about observing this endearing family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his goal to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

The Path Forward

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa may well be part of that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
