The British designer Antony Price, the influential UK-based designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, including the light-hued ensembles that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message online."

Price's death comes shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he began designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with outfits on model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

Following a profession lasting half a century, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the design house 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Dramatic Impact: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles mourns the loss to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
