The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... At the Moment.

Vince Gilligan did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the hit program reaching its finale—and the next chapter officially in the works—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Overwhelming Fan Response

One could easily to get sidetracked by the rampant praise and audience predictions about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it from others, and that's intentional. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no escaping the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our heads down and working,” he chimes in.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by audience theories, does it imply they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… sort of.

“We have some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “but we are always ready to abandon a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and we're in there,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV.
