Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a tough spot but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the belief. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his squad in their European loss, specifically missed opportunities and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we’re always going to battle.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
