The boxing world is experiencing a significant decline this season, with few major fights and markedly reduced thrilling fights than typical. Parker, set to be 34 in January, said: “This is do or die. I am not considering defeat. I have respect for my rival and his achievements and how he has prepared for this contest. But I am on a higher plane and I am planning to demonstrate it on fight night.”

Wardley, approaching 31, and he said: “This is a monumental event for the both of us. It is undoubtedly the largest contest of my career and the biggest fight of my life. But every time I step up I excel under pressure. This Saturday will be the same. The gap between where Joe is and what others believe about me has been a recurring narrative throughout my career.

“He has been going around the block for a considerable period, with a many bouts on his ledger. Certainly not is he an old man but he has been in the game for a long time and had numerous grueling matches. I’ve been in a few wars myself and I realize they cause wear and tear. He has been in a far greater number of those fights than I have.”

But the lingering doubt persists that Parker is likely to be too experienced, and too skilled, for Wardley. He is expected to triumph a grueling encounter with the belief that he is the leading contender for a title shot against Usyk – currently the top heavyweight globally by a clear gap.
