Grief as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African radio and club DJ has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old media personality was confronted by three individuals, with one shot at him before fleeing on foot.
The purpose of the attack is unknown and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, according to authorities.
How It Happened
Police revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a building close to the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the building supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unknown people, according to reports.
"It is alleged the victim was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," a police statement said.
Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what looked like a security uniform shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but succumbed to his injuries on the opposite side of the road.
Officials noted that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the crime scene.
